Following the estimated 40% drop in tourism numbers last year which is seriously affecting the yacht charter business, Craig Smith felt he should write a supportive piece covering the numerous attributes of cruising in Turkey.

AS I write, the British pound has plummeted to a record low against the Euro and US dollar. Not the time to be considering a charter holiday overseas. Or is it? There is at least one place where the pound is holding up well against the local currency.

It just so happens that this country is also one of the finest cruising grounds in the world. At least, that is the claim in Vanessa Bird’s ‘Dream Cruising Destinations’ and I tend to agree. For the last decade I have, apart from a couple of ocean rallies, spent each summer sailing Turkey’s Aegean Coast.
