THE NORTH Pier pontoons in Oban are being hailed as a great success as a total of 933 vessel berth nights were spent at Argyll and Bute Council’s pontoon facility during June 2019 which was more than three times higher than the total number of berth nights clocked up at the pontoons during the same month in 2018, writes Alison Chadwick.

The leap in the number of visitors, spending time in shops and restaurants has been pointed up as ‘great news’ for the economy of Oban and cements the town’s place as a ‘must visit’ location for sailors.

While 1,335 people stepped ashore in June 2018, 2,107 enjoyed the sights and sounds of Oban and surrounding area this year.
