AS OCEAN Youth Trust Scotland celebrates its 20th anniversary, Yachting Life was delighted to join the volunteers and young crew members at James Watt Dock for a day sail on their Bermudan ketch Alba Venturer, writes Penny French.

Every year the trust invites organisations and individuals who support them to experience first hand their inspiring voyages for young people. Alba Venturer is one of two boats, the other is Alba Explorer and both are in use full time from March to the first week in November.

800 young people a year, aged from 12 to 25 years old are given the opportunity to join a five or seven day sailing experience. On board they learn about all aspects of life at sea, from navigation to changing sails, to keeping watch and helming the boat, to domestic chores and exploring the environment ashore.
