EMERGENCY services were called to Largs Yacht Haven on Friday 1 September following an electrical fire on board a visiting boat. Largs inshore and Troon offshore lifeboat teams, the MCA, Largs Fire & Rescue Service, the local police and the various marine businesses helped with the evacuation of the marina.

There were no injuries to personnel or glassfibre boats, although two steel fishing boats suffered superstructure scorching.

‘We are fortunate that we have several members of the Largs RNLI lifeboat team within our marina staff so the initial response was fast and coordinated. This included the removal of fibreglass boats from the surrounding area and the containment of oil in accordance with response procedures. As a result, all personnel were safe and no one was injured,’ confirmed marina director Carolyn Elder.
