PROPOSALS for the management of Oban as a Trust Port were received positively at a public meeting held in Oban in March.

The Oban Bay Stakeholder Group (OBSG) has been working on the viability of creating and operating a Trust Port for Oban since last year. Both stakeholders and the community in general have shown strong commitment to the proposals.

The move to look at Trust Port viability came after CMAL announced plans to operate the harbour as a single management authority, principally for safety reasons. Currently both CMAL and Argyll and Bute Council are the statutory harbour authorities. Users across the board had voiced concern that their interests may be compromised under a single management operator.
